South – Central Sulawesi 10 days

This trip will cover South and Central Sulawesi. Tour starts in Makassar, It’s a bustling cosmopolitan town with settlement of many races and ethnic groups, Chinese, Javanese, Balinese and others. Visit Bulukumba’s fascinating traditional ship building dockyards and pristine beach at Bira. Trip continues to Tana Toraja, home of the Toraja people, where today still adhere to their age-old beliefs, rituals and traditions. The tour will be ended in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on the way to Palu visit Tentena, is a charming small town located at 680 meter above sea level.

Day 01: Airport  Makassar – City Tour

Upon arrival at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar, you will be picked up by our local representative and continue short Makassar city tour by visiting Paotere Harbour to see the traditional harbour of Bugis-Makassarese sailors. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Then, proceed to Fort Rotterdam, the Old Dutch Fortress. In the late afternoon we will visit Anjungan Pantai Losari Makassar” the Boulevard and the icon of Makassar where you enjoy the Sunset (if the weather allows). Dinner will be served in a local seafood restaurant.

Day 02: Rammang – Rammang

Today, full day tour will be started by visiting Rammang-rammang the limestone valley, located in Maros Regency, taking for approximately 90 minutes drive from downtown. The karts mountains are surrounded by beautiful rice fields (the rice fields look nicer from May till August). Afterwards, we will take you to explore the karts mountain formation using small wooden boat at the Pute River. If you are lucky, you could also see the real endemic from the forest such as birds and monkeys. We will also take you for a walk to visit the pre-historic cave, where you can see the pre-historic paintings, then short explore inside the cave to see the stalactite and stalagmite. Break and lunch will be taken at the Kampung Berua, you will have very simple local food, cooked and served by the local people. After lunch, we will have a little walk at the Stone Garden of Rammang-Rammang.

Day 03: Makassar – Pare-Pare – Toraja

After breakfast, set out on a picturesque drive to Toraja for approximately 8 hours drive, passing thru the Buginese area. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant in Pare-Pare, the harbor city between Makassar and Toraja. After lunch, continue driving to Toraja precedes a scenic drive with many photo-stops en route. Afternoon stop at Puncak Lakawan which is also known as erotic mountain. In the late afternoon arrive at Rantepao, Toraja.

Day 04: Toraja Tour – Lemo – Suaya – Lounda – Kete Kesu

After breakfast, a full day tour exploring Toraja. First we will visit Lemo to see rows of TauTau Statues and The Hanging Graves. Onwards to Suaya to discover the secret of the Baby Tree. Lunch will be served at local restaurant. After lunch, visiting Londa, to see an Ancient Grave where the deceased are entombed. At Kete Kesu one of the oldest Torajan villages, we can see Tongkonan and Old Rice Barns, also famous for its traditional colorful woodcarving.

Day 05: Toraja Tour  Batutumonga – Short Walking – Bori

After breakfast, we set out on a trip to Batutumonga, enjoying superb views over Rantepao and surrounding valleys from the top of Toraja. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Then we will do a short walking for approximately 2 hours passing thru the rice field, local village where you can also see the daily life of the people in Toraja. Then, we will continue to visit Bori the Megalith area. This area symbolizes the great funeral ceremonies, which is held in the past.

Day 06: Toraja – Pendolo

Today depart to Pendolo via Palopo. The drive to Palopo takes approximately 2 hours. You could enjoy beautiful panorama along the way. Palopo is a small Muslim port known as the oldest harbor city in Indonesia. You could also find the oldest mosque in Indonesia here. Then, continue driving to Pendolo for another 6 hours passing thru the Palmolive Plantation. Lunch stop en route. In the late afternoon arrive in Pendolo, a small village on the south shore of Lake Poso.

Day 07: Pendolo – Tentena

After breakfast, we will cross the crystal water of Lake Poso to Tentena by local boat (if available) for approximately 2 hours. Otherwise, we have to drive for around 4 hours. Once arrived in Tentena, we will take you to visit the Balinese transmigration village. Afterwards, we will visit the twelve steps waterfall which is called Sulawana Waterfall. Lunch will be served at local restaurant. Free program in the afternoon.

Day 08: Tentena – Palu

Today drives to Palu, the capital city of Central Sulawesi for around 8 hours. On the way, we will pass Kebun Kopi, the rain forest area. We will also pass Poso, which was famous as the centre of the black ebony wood. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. In the afternoon arrive in Palu.

Day 09: Palu – Donggala Tour

After breakfast we will take you for tour to Donggala. We will first stop at Kampong Lere to see the traditional house of Joyo Kodi, the former King of Kaili people. Then, we will stop at the fishing village, where you could take a look at the daily activities of the locals. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Free at your own leisure on sandy beach around Donggala. In the afternoon drive back to Palu.

Day 10:  Transfer to Airport
